City Assessor
What does the City Assessor do?
The Assessor's responsibilities are defined by Michigan's General Property Tax Act (Public Act 206 of 1893) as amended and by City Charter and Ordinances. By state law, every City and Township is required to have a properly certified assessor. The primary responsibility of the assessor is to identify and annually estimate the True Cash Value of every parcel of property in the assessment jurisdiction for the purpose of setting assessments for property taxation. In addition, the assessor is responsible for administering Property Tax Exemptions, calculating taxable values under the formula contained in Michigan Compiled Law (MCL) Section 211.27a, and tracking transfers of ownership.
In addition to these statutory requirements for the assessor, the City of Hillsdale Assessing Department is also responsible for Land Use Planning & Zoning and Code Enforcement & Inspections.
