About Us
Since 1893, the Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities has been the municipally owned and operated provider of electric, water and wastewater services to the City of Hillsdale and its outlying communities. Presently, the Hillsdale BPU serves over 6,300 residents in central Hillsdale County with reliable electric power and nearly 4,000 homes and businesses receive quality water and wastewater services within the city limits.
Mission
The mission of the Hillsdale BPU is to meet or exceed our customer's needs and expectations for reliable, economic and environmentally responsible public utility services.
Membership
Shall be composed of five (5) members, appointed by the Mayor and approved by Council. Board shall annually during the month of May, organize and elect one (1) of its appointed members as President. The City Clerk shall be the ex officio Clerk of the Board, but shall have no vote. The City Clerk shall have access to all of its records and papers.

BPU is proud to be a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3)®. RP3 is a designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service. The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
