City Council Election Cycles

The Mayor and Council Members are elected to four-year terms, with a rotation that elects a Council Member from each ward every two years.  The Mayor and one Council Member from each ward are elected in the gubernatorial election cycle (2026, 2030, 2034, 2038 etc..), while an alternate Council Member from each ward is elected in the Presidential election cycle (2024, 2028, 2032, 2036 etc..).

In 2017, the schedule of the City Council elections were amended to match the gubernatorial and Presidential election cycles.  This change will allow the City of Hillsdale to save tax payer dollars, while increasing the voter turn-out for the Council elections.

Candidates interested in being on the city council must be a qualified elector in the city and be a resident for three (3) years as well as residing in the ward for at least six (6) months prior to the date of the election. (sec.5-1)
