In 2003, Hillsdale City Council unanimously approved the organization of a committee to look at restoring Mrs. Stock's Park. Under the care and vision of then Councilmember MaryAnne MacRitchie, the Mrs. Stock's Park Committee has continued to renovate and enhance the the park in a grand effort to return it to its original state of splendor.
Located at 120 E. Bacon in downtown Hillsdale, Mrs. Stock's Park serves as a summer venue for weddings, gatherings, or simply a quiet place of contemplation. The Park is home to the Summer Concerts Series held annually during the month of July. The concert series is free to all and provides a variety of musical entertainment. Mrs. Stock's Park is also a gathering place within walking distance for free movies provided to the community by the Board of Public Utilities throughout the summer.
Mrs. Stock's Park showcases the MaryAnne MacRitchie Pavilion available for rent by the public for weddings, gatherings of all kinds, as well as musical and theatrical performances. This park boasts beautiful award winning gardens and landscaping created and maintained by the Hillsdale Garden Club. In addition, the restored pond, fountains and bridge are highlights of the park as it is returned to its original beauty. Most recently, the park has been completely fenced with rod iron fencing adding to its charm and sense of seclusion from the bustle of the Downtown District.
Nestled into one of the flowerbeds you will find a sundial created by Quincy Metalworking Artist,
Joel Sanderson. This sculpture is accompanied by "
Winona", a sculpture by local artist Heather Tritchka depicting Winona, daughter of Native American Indian Cheif Baw Beese of the Potowatamee tribe native to Hillsdale. In addition, "Miss Connie", nestled in the Red Bud Garden, was donated to the park by Jeff and Shelley Reynolds in honor of Committee member Connie Erholtz.
